How I can sign in using Windows Live Messenger if I use a gmail account?

I’ve learned that other people who use gmail account can sign in using Windows Live Messenger. I’ve tried to make one but I can’t sign in and I always ended up using hotmail account. Please help.

    if you use a hotmail account to sign in for gmail then that very same account can log into a Windows Live messenger but gmail pure accounts cannot log into Windows Live messenger..
