I have been receiving unwanted e-mails on my Gmail account. I really don’t want this person to be able to contact me anymore. Could someone please give me detailed instructions on how to block them?

    gmail com sign

Go to settings , then filter and enter the email address you want to block. This is called creating a filter.

You can create filter to remove all the e-mails from that person to trash. Or it’s even easier, when you receive that e-mail, select it and click on the button Report Spam, and then it will end up in spam in the future.
