How to download email from gmail without having to have a double emails?

sometimes when I download my email from Gmail into outlook it get disconnected and will have to download all email all over again then I get multiple (duplicate) emails into my inbox. How can I mark the email downloded as downloaded and when I download it next time it download from where it stoped not from the begining?
