Is there a plugin for gmail to view mail differently?

I use Firefox, and I am so used to the mail style where you one click the message in your inbox, and instead of taking you to a new page, the email appears just under the message clicked. Just like in the New Y! Beta mail, and in like the Macintosh mail app.

Is there an extension I can get for gmail to do this too?

I haven’t seen an extension that offers that.

There isn’t a Firefox extension to do that. The nearest thing is Ez Sidebar, which lets you detach the Firefox sidebar and put it above the main window.

Then you can use Gmail’s basic HTML mode — which is a bit wide for the normal sidebar — and open messages from it in the main window.

Gmail now supports IMAP, so you can use the Macintosh mail app, or another IMAP client like Thunderbird, at the same time as using Gmail’s web user interface.
